If Bruno Dias, a writer and director at FailBetter Games, tweeted a photo with arrows pointing at the place where the beginning of the Elden Ring Runes game as well as its combat tutorial is there, a debate took place, with one faction saying that Elden Ring's level layout is a perfect example of encouraging and rewarding players' curiosity, and another saying that the game must be more overt in communicating that the cave has the area of a tutorial.
"This can be considered genius tho because if you've played the souls game previously, you'll feel hesitant to jump down into a pit and head towards the exit," wrote one Twitter user. "While new players can talk with and trust ghosts because the games haven't given them the confidence to trust yet."
"I believe the message needed to be more specific," wrote former MMOexp Australia editor Alex Walker. "I was unable to be able to see the flame from my vantage point, or even the ledge, so I treated it as other messages I'd read up until the moment I realized: "This was designed to fuck me up.'"
It's been claimed that reading is a fundamental skill, and that's certainly true with Elden Ring. The game actually suggests that the dark dive leads to a tutorial area, through a note left by the creators themselves that can be found scrawled at the precipice of the pit.
"The Cave of Knowledge lies below," reads the message which you may think this, coupled with the ghost's words of encouragement should be enough to draw cheap Elden Ring Items players looking to get a handle on basic game concepts into the waiting room. However, the only thing that can clearly distinguish the dev messages from those posted by players elsewhere is your capacity to judge them, which is a subtle distinction and one that's easily missed.
